TERRITORY
In the west of the central region, Bairrada captivates by its diversity, the beauty of its landscape, its cultural and historical wealth. The vineyards, the mountains, the river and the sea emphasize the charms of this region, which covers eight municipalities: Águeda, Anadia, Aveiro, Cantanhede, Coimbra, Mealhada, Oliveira do Bairro and Vagos. Here are produced excellent wines and that strive for differentiation. Sparkling wines take their greatest strength, so it is the ex-libris of Bairrada. Located along the Atlantic coast, the entire region receives the influence of the sea. To the south, the Mondego River crosses the region, bathing the historic city of Coimbra, and in the north the Vouga River and Ria de Aveiro preserve a unique natural wealth. Of full uniqueness is also the Bussaco National Forest, in the heart of Bairrada.
WINES
The ancient wine tradition is rooted in this territory, which produces the finest wines in the country. Made from quality varieties such as Baga in reds, or in Bical in whites, they are however the sparkling wines that have assumed greater importance. The cool, wet weather and of strong maritime influence provides low alcohol content and high acidity grapes, great for the production of sparkling wines. The predominant white grape variety is Maria Gomes, followed by Bical, Arinto, Cercial. In reds, the varieties Baga and Touriga Nacional prevail.
